CULTURAL EXCHANGE

The English classes in the TDS are very interesting because found information about Martin Luther King and Tony Blair. But the things which I like to learned are the Martin Luther King's live and the song "Heal The World".

Martin Luther King's live:

He was an American clergyman, activist and prominent leader in the African-American Civil Right Movements.

  He is best know for his role in the advancement of civil right in the United States and around the world, using non violent methods following the teachings of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

The name of King's famous speech was "I have a dream", he said this speech in August 28, 1963 and in 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

The speech: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where thay will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character".

In his live he did a lot of exceptional things for example eh opposed the war in Vietnam.

He was assassinated one day, on 4 April 1968 (39 years).

King has become a national icon in the history of modern American liberalism.

DRACULA

BRAM STOKER (1847-1912)

Mysterious and tormented: that's what we know about Bram Stoker, the creator of Dracula. And, indeed, that is how he must have been to imagine such a bloodthirsty creature. 104 years later, the author is perhaps not so well remembered but Dracula is certainly still as famous as ever. It's a case of a character that has "eliminated" its author!

The forgotten writer.

Who could have imagined such a thing?

What feverish, tormented, creepy imagination could the bloodiest novel of all times have come from? Who was the inventor of Count Dracula, the famous vampire that would end up terrifying the whole of England and the rest of the world?

His name was Bram Stoker, a practically unknow writer when his novel appeared in London in 1997. Dracula is his creation, the creature who has even managed to "vampirise" his author by becoming more famous than the man himself.

Dracula, the character is now 115 years old, and is still going strong. The "number one vampire" regularly decides to come out of the dark to appear on TV, in comics or in the cinema (there are 80 films about this "adventures"!). What a grat success this was for the obscure Bram Stoker, who wrote only one masterpiece in his whole life, and it was this one!

SUMMARY OF THE PLOT (novel):

Jonathan Harker, a young notary, goes to Transylvania to negotiate a sale with Count Dracula. It doesn't take him long to discover his host's terrible secret: Dracula is a vampire that goes out at night to quench his thirst for human blood.

When he arrives in England, Dracula chooses as his victim Lucy, who is a friend of Mina, Jonatan's fiancée. Lucy bleeds to death.

Will Jonathan Harker, Mina and the condescending professor Van Helsing manage to defeat the vampire? The novel appears as a dossier of letters and parts of the diaries of each of the different characters.

DEVILS AN HEROES

Vambéry told Bram Stoker the story Vlad, a Romanian prince wholived in the XV century, and was known as "Vlad the Implaer" because of his bloodthirsty reputation. He also learned about Dracula, whose name comes from the Romanian word "Dracul", which means "devil". Stoker, facinated by the sound of this name decided to give it to the main character of his next novel. Dracula was a vampire, a dead man that comes alive at night and leaves his coffin tho quanch his thirst for human blood. 

THE SUPERNATURAL

He wrote stories for children, in which it became clar that he was interesed in the supernatural. He took this interestet even futher by joining a secret society whose objective was to make contract with "great, unknow and superior beings" through magic and astrology. There he met Arminius Vambéry, a man  who firmly beleived in the existence of vampires. Stoker was fascinated by this, and straight away started studying the legends of the Eastern countries which are full of these evil creatures.

EL VIATGE D'ANADA I TORNADA

I'd like to recommend a book which I read recently, called El viatge d'anada i tornada.

The author of the book is Gerard Piqué

The book is a biography and the setting is in Barcelona during his childhood. The  main characters are his family (speciality his parents) and himself. 

The things I liked most about the book were when he started playing football with FCB and when he jokes with Pinto in the dressing room, when he was at the firlst team. Some of the scenes are memorable.

All in all, I really liked the book, and I think in the future Xavi, Iniesta, Alexis, Leo... would will write a book too. Because I liked reading this part of the story not everyhady knows albout Gerard Piqué in FCB.

IVET- I'm organizing sports day for charity next week, and I'm looking for sponsor.

CARLA- That's very good, Ivet. What's it for?

IVET- It's for a poor orphanage, which need money.

IVET- I'm doing it next Friday. I'm hoping to raise about two hundred pounds. Will you sponsor me?

Romeo and Juliet chapters

CHAPTER1.

THE MONTAGUES AND THE CAPULETS

There were two familys wich they hate each other, these familis are the Montagues and the Capulets.

One day were fighting because they hated each other, but then the Prince of Verona arrived and he shout if they didn't stop fight he would expel the two familes of the city.

CHAPTER2.

THE GARDEN OF THE CAPULETS

The Capulets family had a party. In this party all the people had to wear masks.

Mercutio, Benvolio and Romeo (the boys of Montagues) went to the party because Romeo want to see Rosalie,  but Romeo saw Juliet and they fell in love whit her. 

After the party Romeo went to Capulet's garden and he litened Juliet, finally they tould and tey kissed.

CHAPTER3.

THE PRINCE OF CATS

Romeo and Juliet wanted to get married, and the Friar Laurence will marry their. And Mercutio a friend of Romeo and Tybalt, aJuliet's cousin, were fighting because they hated each otehr.

In the end Romeo and Juliet get married and Mercutio dies.

CHAPTER4.

FORTUNE'S FOOL

In this chapter, Romeo found Tybalt, he's really angry because he's killed Mercutio, his friend. So he started fighting with Tibalt, until Romeo killed him.

Then, when the prince knew it, he banished Romeo from Verona. If he stay there he will die. 

He spent the last night with her wife, Juliet, she was really sad, for her cousin and of course for the left of Romeo. But what she didn't know, is thet her parents were organizing her wedding with Paris, on Thursday. Then Romeo left to Mantua.

CHAPTER5.

MY LADY'S DEAD

Next morning, Lady Capulet and Lord Capulet went to Juliet's room, and they told her about the marriage between Paris and Juliet. She was really sad and disagreed. She has already married with Romeo. Her parents didn't know that so, they didn't understand Juliet and they continued with the wedding. When Juliet knew the news, he went with the Friar, he lend her a bottle with a liquid, which will make sleep Juliet for two days.

Then when Juliet has decided, he drank the liquid, and her family thought that she was dead. 

While the family were preparing the funeral, the Friar, sent another friar to tell Romeo to came back to Verona.

CHAPTER6.

WITH A KISS, I DIE

When Romeo knew that Juliet was dead, he started thinking how he could die. He decided to drink a poison and die with Juliet.

Paris was in front of the tomb of Juliet. He brought some flowers. he listened some noise so he hid. Romeo arrived, when he tried to open the tomb, Paris started fighting with him. Romeo killed paris.

Meanwhile, the Friar asked to the other friar John, if he has given the letter to Romeo. He answered that he couldn't because some soldiers didn't let him pass. So the Friar started running to the tomb, because if Juliet woke up, she will be scared. When he arrived, he saw Romeo dead. Then some minutes later, Juliet woke up, and she saw Romeo and Paris dead. Then she took the dagger and she died.

When everyone arrived at the tomb of the Capulets, it was too late. This is how this LOVE STORY ends. The only good thing about that is that Capulets and Montagues were friends again. 

The Titanic, a tragic story

100 years after the Titanic tragedy, the world's most famous ship still fascinates us. This April, discover the legend in the new 3D version of James Cameron's film Titanic.

What was the Titanic?
The Titanic was the largest passenger ship in the world when it was built in 1012 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was like a floating town with passengers from all social classes. Third-class passengers paid 3 to 8 pounds for a one-way ticket to America. First-class passengers paid 30 pounds.






Inside the Titanic
The Titanic was a luxury ship. Rich passengers paid £865 for suite decorated in elegant styles. There was also the famous Grand Staircase which is in the film Titanic too.





The Titanic's destination
The Titanic's first voyage was from Southampton, in England, to New York City, USA. The ship left on 10 April 1912... but never arrived at her destination.




The tragedy
On 14 April, four days after leaving Southampton, the Titanic was in the North Atlantic. The sea was calm but visibility was low. At 11.40 pm, a lookout was a large iceberg near the ship. 37 seconds later, the Titanic hit the iceberg and water entered the ship. At first he passengers didn't panic... two hours and 40 minutes later, at 2.20 am, the Titanic sank...


Who died?
Of the 2,224 people on board only 710 survived, there were not enough lifeboats. Most survivors were women, children and the rich: 60% of first-class passengers survived. But only 42% of second-class and less than 25% of third-class passengers survived.

Titanic on film
the wreck of Titanic was found in 1985, about 4 km under the sea. James Cameron made his 1997 film, Titanic, using real images of the wreck. It was the highest-grossing film of all time until Avatar(2009).

visitors can learn about Titanic and Belfast at a new visitor center in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It's a giant building with four wings the shape of Titanic's hull.




The last survivor
The last survivor of the Titanic died in 2009, aged 96. Her name was Millvina Dean and she was two month old when she was recued from the ship.

Carla- Well, one teacher of the school, said to me that I'm doing all wrong, and she's failing all my exams. What should I do, Ivet?

Taylor Lautner!

Taylor Daniel Lautner was born in Grand Rapids michigan USA in 11 of February in 1992.
Now he is 20 years old.

He's been involved in a TV. At the age of eight, he appears in some programs (The Bernie mac Show and My Wife and Kids). Some years later the shot a video in: Lavagirl and Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

But he become famous when he acted in la saga Twilight and he represents "Jacob Black".

Taylor Lautner won different prizes: MTV Movie Awards, People's Choice Awards and Scream Awards... In 2010 he was nominated for one of the twenty actors who wins more dollars in Hollywood and the best kiss.

Will Smith has staked his claim to play Barack Obama if a film about the president is ever made. He says that he is perfect for the role because he and Obama are both tall and, mast importantly, have big ears. "That's the key", Smith says. "America loves ears, you know? Mickey Mouse started it; Googy and Dumbo followed behind. And America just loves the ears". Smith also said that he would wait until obama "writes the end of the story" before playing the role.

Seattle, Washington Starbucks has been giving its customers a caffeine buzz for some 40 years. But the coffee chain is experimenting with a different kind of buzz: alcohol. A Seattle Starbucks store is now serving regional wine and beer to attract more evening customers. It has even changed its name to "15th Avenue Coffee and Tea-inspired by Starbucks". If the concept works, it could be tested in other cities.

Is internet addiction really a problem?

A problem? No way! From what I’ve seen it’s something which people do when they’re bored. It isn’t an “addiction”. The problem is that real life isn’t as interesting as the Internet! It’s more fun online!

I agree with Marky. It isn’t a problem if it’s entertaining. The internet is less addictive than TV. Anyway, in my experience people can be obsessive about everything.

HEYGAZZA!

Marky’s got a point, but I think the Internet can be an addiction and some people need help. I’ve got a friend who’s completely disconnected from real life. In most of his free time, he plays games online and when he isn’t playing he’s in the chat rooms. He’s failed a lot of exams and he’s less interested in everything. It’s like an illness. He needs to talk to someone.

Well, I think internet is addictive but it isn’t a problem, because the TV is the same.All people love spend a few time in front of the screen and watch the a news, cartoons, soap operas... but other people love spending their time in front of the other screen and talk with friends, play games...

I think this is what's really addictive: talking to friends online, chats rooms are a problem because you need to be connected and talk with other people for along time.

But in Internet there are more problems for example, there are a lot of people who uses Internet and some of them are “hackers”.
